When most people think of Social Security they think of a fund or a trust. Most believe it's a promise our government made to people who have put 8% of their income into this fund that would be returned to them when they reach a certain age.
The Social Security promise was made by the Democrat party on behalf of our government at the time. Our government is not God or a god our government is and has always been under the stewardship of the American people. The fact is that throughout the years we (the government) have continued to waste money hand over fist. We left the gold standard and are now spiraling in out of control debt in what appears to be a deliberate and downward fashion.
There is not and has never been a Social Security Trust Fund. The 8% of income all of us have paid has gone to the same place our federal income tax money went; into the general funds of the federal government. The people we voted into office used this money to finance the day to day operations of the United States government.
If Social Security was a trust your card would not indentify you as a person to pay; it would indentify your money. Bernie Madoff just got 150 years in prison for the exact same criminal act. The Democrat party promised your money would be returned to you and then went on a shopping spree. They paid others with as you paid them and now the money has run out on your investment. It is your responsiblity as a United States citizen to keep your government honest and the refusal to do so comes with a heavy price.
George Bush tried to convince congress that by allowing citizens private accounts to be established with 1% of their income we could come to a place where we could phase out this slush fund. Democrats refused the logic because it left out millions who don't contribute to Social Security who would recieve reduced benefits. Because not only retirees but many others get paid by the Social Security Administration and there is no balance sheet. Social Security applies for funding and congress approves it and China buy another piece of paper we call a US Treasury Bond.
The point is you can't make a promise to yourself and expect everyone else to obligate themselves to it. If you are retired or are soon to retire your generations have kicked this can down the road too far. There is no difference between a welfare check and one coming from Social Security. This government by and for the people spent your money; wasted your money as you paid it in with no plan on ever paying it back.
Social Security is welfare and the only way to fix it is to stop our government from wasting our money. The promise was a lie, your money is gone, and the ones trying to fix it well you don't want to hear our answers. The truth is Americans worship "government" as some mythical deety, the truth is Americans are too lazy to care.
